Since its inception in February 2000, Focus International has pro-actively addressed issues concerning the AIDS epidemic in Kenya, while specifically focusing on the current crisis wrought by this scourge on the youth. FI has embarked on programs that produce a platform for the youth to address AIDS related issues. FI has since introduced "Focus Club" High School Youth Empowerment program HIV/AIDS education program to over 30 high schools in Kenya, and "Focus Club" Community youth alliance Program a HIV/AIDS awareness program for out of school at risk youth, in Uasin Gishu District in the Rift valley province of Kenya, and we are in the process of launching the “Focus Club” Sports Train Program a mentoring program targeting youth athletes in the region. These programs have produced a platform for the youth to address AIDS related issues, poverty and other youth related problems in Kenya.

Under the "Focus Club" programs, FI aims to build on the assets and strengths of young people and assist them to define goals, complete school and plan their futures. The club is based on the concept of a "Focused youth", Founded on six key elements; one who ascribes to good behavior; one who abstains from premarital sex and if married remains faithful to the spouse; one who supports those infected and affected by HIV/AIDS; one who attempts to positively influence his/her peers; one who actively participates in community issues; and one who is well informed the dangers, scope and impact of HIV/AIDS. Building a focused society of youth is done by building on young people’s capacities. Assisting them to cultivate their own talents, increasing their self-esteem thus easing their transition to adulthood.
